Quantitative Researcher Job In Australia With Visa Sponsorship 2024

We are actively seeking skilled researchers with a strong interest in advancing their careers within the realm of quantitative finance. At SIG, our Quantitative Researchers tackle complex challenges by applying advanced mathematical, statistical and programming techniques to our trading environment.

Although our problems often differ from those found in academic research, they require the expertise of individuals who possess exceptional analytical skills, an unwavering attention to detail and a deep commitment to solving intricate financial puzzles. Our research involves turning innovative ideas into actionable trading signals, collaborating with technologists for rigorous backtesting and continually refining strategies based on performance and feedback.

The role offers a robust orientation program that bridges the gap between academic theory and practical industry application. This program includes introductions to options pricing, access to proprietary data sets and hands-on practice with data analysis techniques.

Beyond the initial training, our dynamic trading floor fosters a collaborative and informal environment where continuous learning and development are encouraged. With competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits and opportunities for professional growth, SIG is committed to creating an inclusive and supportive workplace where talented individuals can thrive and make a meaningful impact.

Your Role and Responsibilities

The typical lifecycle of a quantitative research project begins with an initial idea. This idea could originate from various sources: it might be your own concept, one proposed by a mentor or even an idea sparked during an informal conversation in the cafeteria.

As a Quantitative Researcher, your task is to delve into this idea by analyzing market data and utilizing mathematical, statistical and programming tools. Your research efforts may lead to the identification of a novel pattern that can be developed into a trading signal.

You will collaborate closely with technologists to backtest your findings and integrate the trading signal into production systems. Once the signal is operational within our electronic trading strategies, your role will involve ongoing research to enhance the performance of the strategy. As the strategy evolves, you will engage with other researchers, strategists and traders to gather feedback and brainstorm further ideas. This iterative process may result in new quantitative projects and the cycle begins anew.

To support your transition from academia to industry, we offer a comprehensive orientation program. This program covers topics such as options pricing, familiarization with our proprietary data sets and opportunities to practice data analysis techniques. Beyond the orientation, our trading floor provides a dynamic environment for continuous learning and development through ongoing discussions.
