Commonwealth Shared Scholarship is one among the three Master’s degree programmes offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. Similarly, the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK (CSC) provides the UK government scholarship scheme led by international development objectives. The Commonwealth Commission operates within the framework of the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP). 

The Commission also shows a brilliant demonstration of the UK’s enduring commitment to the Commonwealth. The major interest of the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship is to attract students with exceptional talents and identifiable potential from all backgrounds and support them to become leaders and innovators upon returning to their home countries.

Commonwealth Shared Scholarship 2024

This scholarship is currently accepting new applications for the 2024 academic year. Interested applicants are advised to visit the Commonwealth Portal to sign up and submit an application. Commonwealth Scholarship 2024 is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). One of the objectives of the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship is to enable talented and motivated individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development. Commonwealth Shared Scholarship 2024 Deadline

The application portal for the 2024 academic year is now open for new registration. All interested applicants are expected to visit the website at https://cscuk.fcdo.gov.uk/scholarships/commonwealth-shared-scholarships-applications/ to complete their application. The application portal will close on the 13 day of December 2024 at 16:00 GMT.

Commonwealth Scholarship Requirements

Applicants for this scholarship must possess the following:

  • Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or you’re a British Protected Person.
  • Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.
  • Be available to start their academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September 2023.
  • By September 2023, hold a first degree of at least upper second-class (2:1) honours standard, or a lower second-class degree (2:2) and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree)
  • Not have studied or worked for one (academic) year or more in a high-income country
  • Evidence of inability to afford to study in the UK university without this Scholarship.
  • Have provided all supporting documentation in the required format.

When can I apply for the Commonwealth Scholarship 2024/2025?

Can I stay in the UK after the Commonwealth Scholarship?

Commonwealth Shared Scholarship in advance. The CSC will consider a request to extend your leave to remain in the UK after your award only if you wish to move from Master’s to PhD study. Strict conditions will apply. At the moment CSC cannot provide a letter of support or permission for you to remain in the UK after your award to enable you to work.

Process of CSC Scholarship

  • You must be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person.
  • You should hold a first degree of at least upper second-class (2:1) standard, or a lower second-class degree (2:2) with relevant. postgraduate qualifications.
  • You must not have studied or worked for more than a year in a high-income country, and you must be unable to afford to study in the UK without a scholarship.
  • The scholarship is available for specific Master’s courses offered by UK universities that have agreed to participate in the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship program.
  • Check the list of eligible courses on the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) website or the website of the specific university you’re interested in.
  • Apply for an eligible Master’s course at a UK university that is part of the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship scheme.
  • Make sure you meet the university’s admission requirements and deadlines. The scholarship application process runs parallel to the university admission process, so both need to be completed.
Apply for the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship
  • Complete the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship application form online via the CSC’s online application system.
  • Applications usually open around November, and the deadline is typically in December or January. Be sure to check the exact dates each year.
  • As part of your application, you’ll need to submit
  • A statement of purpose outlining your academic and career plans.
  • Two references, usually from academic or professional referees.
  • A copy of your university admission letter.
  • Proof of citizenship or refugee status.

Await Results

  • The selection process usually takes several months. If you are shortlisted, you may be asked to attend an interview.
  • Successful candidates will be notified by their chosen university and by the CSC, usually around April or May.

Accept the Scholarship

  • If selected, you’ll need to formally accept the scholarship offer and fulfil any additional requirements set by the university.
  • Prepare for your departure to the UK, including applying for a student visa and arranging travel.
